Brent has over 35 years
experience of operational, financial and information technology management and
consulting, within a major international corporate, as professional services
director of an independent information services provider, as a senior consultant
within a major accounting firm, as a product manager, engineering manager and
enterprise architect in a start-up software vendor and as an independent consultant.
For 18 years he was
employed by the international financial services company NZI Corporation,
culminating in his appointment as Chief Financial Officer in 1988 following the
identification of serious solvency problems with the banking subsidiary. Prior
to that appointment he was Chief Accountant and Chief Information Officer for
the Group, having previously undertaken those roles for the life insurance
operations.
Since leaving NZI in
1990 he has been using his experience to consult to a broad range of industries,
including service, software development, manufacturing, distribution, retail, local government,
education, insurance and international trade.
Brent has a wide
experience in analysis of the often conflicting demands of market objectives,
economic requirements, and financial / technology constraints, having undertaken
a broad range of activities related to strategic positioning, financial
structuring and use of information technology.
His consulting
activities have included information systems reviews and planning, strategic
planning, marketing strategy, feasibility studies, process analysis and
improvement, business requirements analysis and systems selection, project and
programme review, financial structuring, and organisation review.
He also has significant
senior operational management experience including establishment of a New
Zealand superannuation business, membership of the Boards of management of an
international insurance operations and a registered bank, as a director of an
international reinsurance group and non executive director of the Australian
stock exchange listed information technology product and services company Paxus Corporation.
Between 1995 and 2007 as well as work
directly for clients of Gofers, he also consulted to clients of The Simpl Group
and at various times undertook
the roles of Professional Services Director, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology
Officer for Simpl. For nearly four years until mid 2003 he wrote a regular column for The National Business Review on the implications
for business of technology, particularly information and communications
technology changes.
Currently he is also acts as CTO for Healthphone
Solutions, responsible for translating market requirements into the company's
product and technology strategy and architectures, together with oversight of
the design, build
and deployment of the products against the strategy and architectures.
He has a B.Sc. in
Mathematics, a B.Com in Accounting, and is a Chartered Accountant.
